Our human clinical functional laboratory is equipped with the following:

  • GE: Logiq 9 ultrasound for vascular (brachial, carotid artery) imaging, and 2-4 MHz sector transducer for cardiac echo imaging
  • Brachial Analyzer and Vascular Imager (Vascular Tools 6)
  • Noninvasive Hemodynamics pulse wave analysis workstation with automated blood pressure cuff and software (Cardiovascular Engineering, Inc.)
  • J-wires for endothelial cell collection
  • Rapidly inflating automatic pneumatic air compressor and blood pressure cuffs for brachial artery FMD studies (Hokansen, Inc.)
  • PowerLab 8/35 data acquisition module and LabChart Pro software (AdInstruments, Inc.)
  • Human non-invasive blood pressure cuff and nano foundation system, software and accessories (AdInstruments, Inc.)
  • Digital automatic transformer (DATq) to convert Doppler audio blood velocity signals during human exercise

We also use various core lab facilities on the UI campus including assessments of gene expression in the DNA core facility, confocal imaging of cells in the Central Microscopy Core lab, and in vitro measurements of nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species in the Free Radical Research Core lab.
